Spending Update - June 2018

Sorry for the lack of posts recently and the delay in our June spending update. It's proving to be a busy summer and I'm struggling to find time to blog. I can't really complain though; being busy due to fun family activities and travel isn't the worst problem to have. Anyway, here's what our spending looked like in June.

What We Spent in June
We did pretty well this month, but we did go over budget a bit. Some of it was expected, but some was a little surprising. Here's the numbers:

We did alright this month, but I will also take a moment to point how we're doing halfway through the year. As you can see, we're $2,000 over budget, which I'm pretty satisfied with. That is easily explained by our dental expenses and the maintenance I did on our truck. Barring any unexpected large expenses, we may just come in on budget at the end of the year. That's mostly because we aren't planning any expensive travel this year.

What We Bought in June
Groceries
Our grocery bill was shockingly high in June, and I'm not really sure why. It should be a lot better in July.

Car
As expected, our automobile spending was high this month since we payed for insurance on the truck and registration for the Sonata. The truck insurance was budgeted for last month, so it's not a big deal. The registration was overlooked in our car budget, so I will be adjusting that next year.
Tire swing (still in prototype phase)

Utilities
We were a little over budget on utilities, but it could have been worse. It appears our landscaping project is saving water, which is good, but it's still a little too early to tell.

Household
We did really well in this category this month, only buying a few little things. Those included an awesome timer switch for Frugal Babe's ceiling fan, and some reusable produce bags.

Home Improvement
Most of the spending in this category went to a sweet tire swing for Frugal Babe. It cost a little more than expected, but it's worth every cent. We got the tire for free, but we had to buy some chain, stainless steel hardware, a sturdy tow strap, and an amazing swivel device.
I also spent a bit of money on materials to redo our entire back yard drip irrigation system. Hopefully that will save some money and frustration going forward.

Clothing
We got a new sun protection hat for Frugal Babe, as well as some other random things.

Personal Care
We bought a bunch of sunscreen and some jars to hold Chrissy's homemade body butter.

Credit Card Rewards in June
We earned $240 in cash rewards in June, bringing our 2018 total to $590. Not too shabby.
