Andy's Goals for 2017

One of my (random) goals for the year.
I know it's a little late, but I'm finally posting my goals for this year. We've been incredibly busy getting our house ready to sell, so a lot of blogging has had to wait. Fortunately, the house is now on the market and will hopefully sell soon.  Anyway, read on for my goals for 2017.

Professional
Get My Business Going
As I've mentioned before, I plan to continue doing some work after I quit my real job, but it's going to be work I want to do. I have a couple ideas for products I would like to develop and sell, and this is the year I will actually make that happen. My official goal will be to have at least one product fully designed and ready for production by the end of the year. My stretch goal is to make $10,000 from my business.

Blog Consistently
This should be a pretty easy goal to achieve, but I want to make sure I post a new blog at least once a week. If I wanted to really monetize this blog, I should post more, but I want to keep it fun, so I'm not going to overdo it.

Financial
Stick to Retirement Budget
I have already developed a retirement budget, but I need to update it with the latest numbers and make it a little more realistic. It will most likely come in around $30,000 for the year, which I think is a pretty good goal. You will see a post about the new budget in the near future.

Travel Hack
I've seen a lot of talk about travel hacking and credit card churning, so I'm going to investigate these topics thoroughly this year and if they seem like they're worth doing, I will jump on the bandwagon.

Personal
Get in Shape
I know this one is cliche, but I want to get in better shape, and now that I don't have a real job and miserable commute wasting all my time, I don't have any excuses. I started the year at 235 pounds with 18% body fat. I'm not going to put a weight target, but I would like to shoot for 12% body fat or lower.

Join a Community Organization
Leaving the workplace is going to dampen my social life, so I want to ensure I still get out into the world and interact with people. Getting involved with a community organization seems like a great way to do that consistently, so I'm planning to join at least one this year.

Learn to Weld
This has been a goal of mine for a long time, but it has eluded me. The circumstances are finally right for me to check this off my to-do list, which I am very excited about.

Camping
It's going to be a little tough with the baby, but I want to go camping at least once per quarter this year. Hopefully, we can make at least one of those trips an extended one.

Read More Books
I have a shelf full of books I want to read, but I never seem to have the time. That ends now. My goal is to read at least six real books this year (The Very Hungry Caterpillar doesn't count).

Guitar
I bought a guitar a couple years ago and was actually pretty good about practicing for a while, but that eventually fell by the wayside. My goal is to pick up the guitar again and practice at least twice a week. I plan to do at least one of those sessions with a friend, although he doesn't know that yet.

Organize our Spices
This is a bit of an odd one, but our spice storage situation has been in disarray for quite some time. I'm committed to developing a robust system for storing our spices in a compact and easily accessible manner.

What are your goals for the year? Let us know in the comments.

Affiliate Recommendation:
Shop with Us on Amazon
Amazon.com is probably our favorite (big) company. They have pretty much anything you could ever want, usually with the best price around. Best of all, they have exceptional customer service.
If you're already an Amazon customer, please shop through the link on this site so we can get a few cents. If you don't use Amazon, get on the bandwagon--you'll thank me later.

  1. Keep me posted on ideas for the spice organization (that's on my to-do as well)! Also, how about a link for "travel hacks"?

    1. Keep your eye on the blog for exciting spice updates.

There are tons of sites out there about travel hacking. One I've checked out in the past is is Million Mile Secrets: https://millionmilesecrets.com/new-to-miles-points-start-here/
